Scent Evidence K9 Mission and Vision
Our mission is to provide effective systems and services that enable communities and organizations to find missing persons and bring them home safely.
A key approach in achieving this mission is helping communities focus on providing services to the most vulnerable populations with greater risk of becoming a missing person. Two vulnerable populations found in most communities are children with autism spectrum disorder and persons with dementia.
According to the Center for Disease Control, one in 68 children have been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders (ASD). A study completed by the American Pediatric Association states that almost 50% of these diagnosed children will go missing at least once before the age of 17. Based on recent studies, the number of individuals diagnosed with dementia will increase to 7.1 million in the USA by 2025. This is an increase of 40%. Studies have shown that 6 out 10 individuals with dementia will become lost.
The FBI stated that 627,911 missing person records were entered into the 2013 National Crime Information Center (NCIC) report. At Scent Evidence K9, we believe that these heartbreaking statistics are much more than just numbers on a page. We believe that every missing person is important and deserves the best resources available to search for them.
The Scent Evidence K9 vision is that every community across the country and around the world will have innovative and integrated systems in place to find missing persons and return them to safety.
SEK9 is a family owned and operated organization that is committed to serving others. The organization was established in 2012 and has grown from providing trained human scent discriminate K9’s and training programs to organizations in the southeast, to serving communities and law enforcement agencies across the country. Founders, Paul and Donna Coley, have been committed to serving those most in need for over 25 years as leaders in the field of human services. Their daughters Cassie and Jordan, and son-in-law, Josh have devoted their young lives to service, as well, in the fields of teaching and mission work.
Paul, like many other canine handlers, faced the challenge of finding an effective scent article during deployments. Utilizing his investigative experience and problem solving skill set, Paul created the SEK9 Scent Preservation Kit® to aid K9 teams in doing their jobs. Not only is the Kit a key contributor to a canine team’s success in bringing the lost home, it serves as a useful tool in raising awareness of individuals with higher risks of becoming missing persons and offers many custodians and caregivers peace of mind
Paul Coley – Founder & CEO
Paul has dedicated his entire career to public service in the fields of education, law enforcement, criminal justice, investigations, forensics, and emergency management. While Chief of Security at Florida’s largest mental health treatment facility, Paul researched the best way to find missing patients, and subsequently established their first canine program.
Paul further developed his knowledge and skill as a handler while working as a Forensic Canine Specialist for the FBI. As a member of the FBI Evidence Response Team, he deployed human scent evidence K9 teams in the United States of America and overseas. Paul has also served as an instructor for National Academy Classes at FBI Academy.
Seeing the need to help communities and law enforcement agencies improve their methods of locating missing persons, Paul started Scent Evidence K9 to provide innovative human scent discriminate K9 services on an international level.

TailChasers™ is a small family business still in the puppy stage. Kerry and Katherine are a mother daughter duo bringing innovation and creativity to everything they do. Naturally, this illustrious quest includes dog walks. Kerry, a successful Bio-tech Business Development, Sales and Marketing professional and Katherine, a recent Honors Graduate of San Diego State University came up with the idea of SPLEASH® and TailChasers™on an actual dog-walk together with their three, four-legged family members. Their Outcome? Working together with people and pets to deliver unprecedented, savvy products that make lives easier. Check back often to see TailChasers’ next project.
Necessity being the Mother of all inventions, the idea for SPLEASH® came to Kerry on a walk with her Black Lab-Weimaraner mix in the hot California sun. How could she conveniently carry the water her Best Furry Friend (BFF) so needed while making their routine walks even more enjoyable? The answer soon came to her and SPLEASH® was born! By combining the refreshing spray qualities of a water gun with the stability and control of a leash handle, Kerry was able to solve all of her walking worries!
We hope to give back to women experiencing domestic violence; which is why every year a portion of the surplus funds generated by sales of SPLEASH® will result in a donation toward a domestic abuse support organization that works with dogs.
