K9 memorialized by Halifax County Sheriff’s Office

HALIFAX COUNTY, Va. (WDBJ) – Trucker, a K9 who served with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office, passed away in a medical emergency, the sheriff’s office announced via social media Wednesday.

The one-year-old pupper passed away at 1:30 a.m. April 1, 2026, according to deputies.

In a social media post, the sheriff’s office said:

“Corporal Garber did everything a handler, a partner, and a brother could do. He carried Trucker into the Halifax Veterinary Clinic, and from there Trucker was rushed to Animal Emergency Care in Lynchburg, before being transferred to Triangle Veterinary Referral Hospital in Durham, North Carolina. Despite three surgeries and every effort made to save him, Trucker’s fight came to an end.

Trucker was more than a K9. He was a partner, a protector, and a loyal member of our Sheriff’s Office family. In his short time with us, he made an impact that will never be forgotten.

Our hearts are with Corporal Garber, who didn’t just lose a working dog — he lost his partner.

We ask that you keep Corporal Garber and our entire Sheriff’s Office in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Rest easy, K9 Trucker.

We’ll take it from here”
