K9 Rex arrives in Washoe County ready to track, nab and sniff out narcotics

The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office (WCSO) announced the addition of a new four-legged partner to their K9 Unit.
K9 Rex is a 17-month-old Dutch Shepherd from Hungary. WCSO officials say he is an athletic, obedient, and high-drive working dog who is already settling in well at home and forming a strong bond with his family.
K9 Rex completed his training at Vohne Liche Kennels West and is certified as a dual-purpose K9 trained in narcotics detection, apprehension and tracking. He will serve the community alongside his partner, Deputy Carlton.
“K9 Rex embodies the professionalism, dedication, and drive that define our K9 Unit,” Sheriff Balaam said in a statement. “We are excited to see the impact he and Deputy Carlton will have in helping keep Washoe County safe. I would also like to extend my sincere gratitude to Washoe County K9 Partners and to the unwavering support of our donors. Their continued commitment plays a vital role in equipping and sustaining our K9 teams.”
