Oklahoma City K9 injured while pursuing suspect

An Oklahoma City police K9 is recovering after being injured in the pursuit of a suspect.

On June 28, officers with the Oklahoma City Police Department tracked down a stolen vehicle near S.E. 19th and S. Santa Fe Ave.

Investigators say the suspect initially got out of the truck but then jumped back inside to flee from the scene.

At that point, Sgt. Michael Moore deployed K9 Dash, who began engaging with the suspect in the driver’s seat.

Officials say Dash refused to let go even when the suspect hit the gas and took off.

Investigators say Dash was dragged a significant distance down the road before he finally broke his grip.

Sgt. Moore immediately rushed Dash to the emergency vet clinic where Dash was treated for road rash to his paws.

Fortunately, he is expected to make a full recovery.
