Sacramento K-9 stabbed

A Sacramento police K-9 officer was injured Monday night in the Del Paso Heights area of Sacramento, and a suspect was shot by officers, police said.

K-9 Reno was taken to an emergency veterinary in stable condition and underwent surgery. He is expected to make a full recovery, the police department said.

The incident began before 9:30 p.m. in the area of Marysville and Los Robles boulevards.

Officers said the suspect rammed his truck into a gate and a parked police car at the Sacramento police substation.

Several officers started chasing the suspect’s truck until the suspect crashed into a yard on Rosalind Street and started running away.

Police released a K-9 to chase the suspect. Officers then shot at the suspect multiple times as he fought the K-9.

Officers were able to take the suspect into custody. He was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.

The resident was injured, but did not need to be taken to the hospital.

The K-9, identified as Reno, was taken to a veterinary hospital and is being treated for lacerations. The K-9 is expected to survive.
