Six new K9s join Comal County Sheriff’s Office

COMAL COUNTY, Texas — The Comal County Sheriff’s Office is growing its K9 unit with six new four-legged deputies from Europe.
The Dutch and German Shepherds recently arrived from Slovakia and Hungary and will eventually serve as patrol and detection dogs throughout the county.
Before hitting the streets, each dog will spend the next several months bonding with its handler before beginning an intensive 20-week training program.
The sheriff’s office says it will introduce each K9 to the community in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, several longtime K9 partners are preparing to retire after years of dedicated service.
