USU Police Department adds new K-9 member, Wolverine

LOGAN, Utah (ABC4) — The Utah State University Police Department’s K-9 team has announced their newest K-9 member, Wolverine.

Wolverine will be partnered with Detective Mitch Blackham, and his job is to keep the USU Logan campus and community safe while providing support to law enforcement agencies across Cache County. He will conduct security sweeps, respond to threats, and be present at large-scale university events, working alongside USU PD’s current dogs, Sage and Zoomer.

Prior to joining USU, Wolverine served overseas supporting the United States government. He was later donated to USU through a federal program as a certified explosives detection dog.

“Wolverine has recently transitioned from serving overseas to protecting our Aggie community,” said Detective Mitch Blackham. “Highly disciplined and focused, Wolverine’s calm demeanor and sharp training make him a trusted asset in maintaining a secure campus environment, and we couldn’t be prouder to have him on patrol.”

As Wolverine patrols the campus, the university reminds students that he and Zoomer are working dogs focused on explosives detection, and no one is allowed to pet them. However, staff and students may pet and play with Sage.
